Can you tell this is my favourite time of the year? Yep, thought you could! I mean, what’s not to love? Spring time in Melbourne is the happiest time of the year and the beginning of the biggest social calendar for everyone with spring racing, weddings, work parties and celebrations.

I won’t stop talking about spring racing until the very last race day has come to an end, and you know what day that is? Emirates Stakes Day! The day for the whole family to come and enjoy the racing carnival, get dressed up and share the highlights of the last few weeks with the little people in your life that have seen you stumble in the door after a big day just a few days earlier.

I teamed up with Marks and Spencer to show you how you can style yourself and your kids in an affordable yet super cute way, after all, if you attend every race day like I do, this very awesome time of the year can become a very expensive time of the year.

Stakes day is all about dressing a little more relaxed than the other days, you can embrace colour, prints, wear a big floppy hat and flowing dresses. For the kids, it’s about keeping them comfortable, let their personality shine and they don’t need to be in a three-piece suit to look the part.

My boys are dressed in all Marks and Spencer and I made sure to select pieces that best suited their individual style. Aston has a preppy kind of look and pulls of a suit like a pro, William is very rough and tumble so he needed loose pants to run around it. How cute are their hats???

There are several things I love about M&S and that I have loved since I first discovered them several years ago. They are wonderfully priced, they sit at an affordable price range but sit at a high fabric and style quality range, something you don’t see often. The best part about it (especially for William) is they have a stain resistance technology on their kids clothing that acts as a barrier to stop stains from forming on their garments! Win!

Plus (wait for it) their Insolia® shoes, redistributes your weight away from the balls of your feet, reducing pressure and increasing ankle stability, allowing you to wear your heels all day long. So if you are foot complainer like me, or find it hard to wear heels, I highly recommend trying the Marks and Spencer range. Double Win!

So, my tips for Stakes Day?

  • You don’t have to spend the big bucks to look good.
  • Dress your kids in comfortable clothing and pieces they can wear again styled differently.
  • Enjoy a less formal race day out with your children and create beautiful memories.
