Recently I was asked to define fashion Melbourne style and of course an image of a black and grey outfit came to mind. You hear it all the time about Melbournians loving their monochrome palette mixed with a hint of grey hues and you know what? As a Melbourne woman (through and through) they are right!  There is nothing I love more than a great pair of black Zara waxed jeans, a tshirt and black blazer. Don’t forget that although you might be swimming in a pool of greys and blacks, its super important to define your look and make it your own. Exhibit A above!

To kick of the Melbourne Grand Prix weekend, I attended the launch of The Johnnie Walker Penhouse at The Blackman Hotel. In true Melbourne style in the month of March, the weather was perfect and our view of the race track and our beautiful city landscape could not get any better. Over looking the race track in my much loved Preen dress and sipping (yes, one small sip at a time for the non drinker I am) my Johnnie Walker cocktail and bopping to the beat of my favourite 90′s tracks, my thoughts of Paris were a long way away and I realised, I live in the best city in the world.

Celebs and models were having a good old time amongst the fab gold decor and gold painted ladies, I could see the excitement building for one of Melbourne’s biggest weekends of the year, this room was electric.

Get excited if you are in Melbourne, the LMFF is near so be sure to get the girls and get your tickets to a runway! Is that not the perfect night us fashionistas live for?

We are seeing very definite and over exaggerate parts as a trend for this year’s Festival. Other looks for the season include hair with soft and feminine texture — we are moving away from the crisp beach look — vibrant reds, in fact one of the runways at 2013 L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival will be dedicated to the colour red, short soft cuts and flashes or highlights of strong colour in dark hair.” Caterina Dibiase, L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival Hair Director

“This year its all about opulent glamour — think beauty inspired by precious jewels. Beauty that indulges the senses and looks expensive!  Eyes are a big focus and we are seeing a lot of strong, statement looks.  Its important to be bold.  You can use 3 to 4 shades of colour with the main shade complimenting the colour of your eye. Be sure to use your lighter shades first and work into the eye with the darker.” Rae Morris, L’Oréal Paris and L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival Make-up Director
